FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register?
Before race day, you can register online on this website, via the mail or in person at the Prairie du Chien City Hall, 214 E. Blackhawk Ave., Prairie du Chien, WI.  You can also register in person on race day, but you will not be guaranteed a t-shirt.

What is the Kids' Race?
There is a short course for kids 11 and under.  The course is about a mile long and there are several obstacles for the kids to complete including the mud pit at the end.  There is a $15 fee for each child running the course, and each child must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian to run.  (Yes, parents may accompany their children on the short course at no cost.)

Do kids have to do the Kids' Race or can they run the Full Course?
Kids of any age may participate in the Full Course.  However, it is recommended that kids 11 and under be accompanied by an adult.  Both the child and adult running with them must pay the Full Course registration fee.  Anyone under age 18 on race day MUST have a parent or legal guardian sign his or her waiver.

Can I get a refund?
No.  We are sorry to say that we cannot give you a refund if you cannot race.  This is a fundraiser, and we appreciate your donation.

May I transfer my registration to someone else if I cannot race?
Yes.  You may transfer your registration to someone else if you cannot race.  Please contact Lorie at 608-412-2974 to make the transfer OR but that person must present written and signed permission from the registered person on race day to take his or her place.

Is the run safe?
We do our best to make the course safe, but there is risk involved in the mud run; this is an extreme activity/ sport. There will be medical personnel on site in case of an emergency; however, you enter the event at your own risk.

May we compete as a team?
Yes, we do not limit the number of team members.  There are no team discounts as this is a fundraiser.  However, we will be awarding some team prizes.

May we wear costumes or run barefoot?
You must wear shoes for safety reasons.  Don’t forget the duct tape to keep them on your feet.  Our mud has a habit of stealing shoes. Costumes are encouraged; we are awarding prizes for the best costumes!

Can I do this even if I am not in good shape?
For sure! We do our best to make this run a challenge for people who are into that, but also a lot of fun for people who just want to have a fun experience with their friends getting through the course.

How should I train for this?
Starting weeks in advance is encouraged.  A good running or walking regime is appropriate.  Strength training is also suggested but not necessary.  It depends on your plans for the day.  Having a fun time, or taking home the shoe.

Can I walk the run?
Yes.  You can walk the course.  However, there is a time limit of 2 hours to finish the race.

Am I allowed to skip obstacles if I cannot do them?
Yes, but doing so will disqualify you from any awards.  Working with others to complete obstacles is encouraged.

What should I bring?
Athletic clothes that you don’t mind getting muddy (you will be getting muddy), good running shoes, but maybe not your newest pair, a towel, and a garbage bag to sit on for the drive home.

What can I do with my keys and phone?
We will hold your keys for you during the race if you don't have friends of family along to do it. You just need to label them with your name and bib number on a tag we will provide and turn them in at the designated location at the registration area. There will be a sign. We suggest that you lock other valuables in your car. Yes. If you didn't drive we will hold your phone and stuff too. :)

Can I bring my dog?
You can bring your dog to the park, but all animals must be leashed and will not be allowed to run with you on the course.

Where do I get my bib, t-shirt, and race packet?
You will get them on race day at the registration table or you may pick them up Friday night at the concession stand at the ball park between the hours of 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Will there be water along the way?
There will be water available for participants half way through the race and at the finish.

What if it rains?
You will be getting muddy and wet!  More fun!

Will there be showers afterward?
No. There will not be showers with privacy or hot water. There will be this awesomeness where you can rinse yourself off, thanks to the Prairie du Chien Fire Department. If you traveled to the event and want a hot shower before heading home you could drag your muddy butt over to the truck stop and get a shower for $10. A much much better idea is to get a hotel and spend the weekend enjoying the Prairie du Chien area. Check out the Prairie du Chien Area Chamber of Commerce website to find lodging and learn about neat stuff in the area.

When will the prizes and awards be presented?
All medals, prizes and awards will be presented after the last participant crosses the finish line.

Will food be available?
Yes, hot drinks, light snacks, and bottled water will be available for purchase.
